Do not let the White House convince you that they are dictating what happens for the 250th. They're doing a bunch of stuff, but it's all fleeting spectacle. There is genuine, thoughtful, history-focused programming happening all over the United States. Get offline and go find it.
Realising now that Stephen Miller and his ilk are the Breckinridge Long of this generation. Far right podcasters are Father Coughlin and the militias are Silver Legion of Pelley. We’ve been here before and have the means to change course.

This was a wonderful read. I’m adding it to my reading list for 19th and 20th c survey courses.
Just finished my 15th year teaching at an independent, private school in the US. What occurs in the classroom and the intellectual curiosity of my students still excites me. My colleagues are wonderful. But bureaucratically it’s beginning to rival the Soviets.
