You can't win them all! It is indeed (just) a recent farm track. We now suspect the 'Portway' may run south of the field boundary, mostly removed by the quarry activity there, though there may still be a chance to catch some peripheral remains. Kudos to TVAS for a neat job sorting all this out!
It was made by a Roman glassmaker c2nd century CE, probably strung with other beads to form a necklace or pendant
Well, beautifully cleaned up by the TVAS team and photographed by drone, it turned out to be limestone 'pavement' - outcropping bedrock in other words. Back to the drawing board, but ...
