And that poses immense problems for the entire democratic project, which relies on voters being able to reward leaders who do well and punish leaders who do poorly
In a public servant, the issue is when the high control religion comes with a person or group who the politician feels they need to listen to above the Constitution/ their constituents. Jews have too much experience in being the "weird" religion that disqualifies you from office.
I don't like the word cult for that reason. It tends to bring in sensationalized stories about new and unusual religions and confuse the issue. The problem is, whether a new or old religion, when high control leads to abuse (of many kinds) and isolation from help.
gerrymandering blue states, expanding the court, enfranchising DC, enfranchising other territories if they want it, expanding the judiciary, it's partisan stuff that isn't going to poll great. and we need to do it anyway.

I get it. Long term deployment of soldiers on the streets of a U.S. city is corrosive to civil liberties, constitutionally questionable, massively wasteful, and annoying as shit.
But it is important to note that the vast vast vast majority of what the national guard is doing in DC is NOTHING.
a while ago one of my juniors asked me if a video in Chinese was legit, and I looked at it for like two seconds and said "this is Falun Gong." she asked me how I could tell and I explained that it had the exact same visual stylings and cadence as Chinese state media, but the bad guys were reversed

As a desi I didn’t really think about Falun Gong much until I moved to the Bay. Now I hate them and their stupid abusive dance troupe with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. Absolutely one of the underrated pipelines to mass psychosis and fascism.
