(also we already have a populist alternative to saying "capitalist class" and variants thereof—"the oligarchs,"—and it sounds better while also not having the limitation of describing one specific type of guy unique to this political moment)
this argument makes way more sense once you realize this guy is involved with the Cato Institute—which should be a jailable offense, by the way—and therefore has a vested interest in elevating the Supreme Court to an untouchable priest class which actually holds all power in our government
honestly the real problem with "Epstein class" isn't that it's antisemitic or has potential to be antisemitic, it's that people keep using it as a populist, depoliticized replacement for "capitalist class" when the "Epsteinite billionaire" archetype is *at best* a tiny subset of the capitalist class
there is no way to make this not sound harsh but if this is your actual mentality the only proper response is/would be "seek help and take a step back or outright stop engaging with politics"—you simply cannot hope make the world a better place while also failing at such basic aspects of self-care
in general you will be a much better person for engaging with—and synthesizing from—a wide array of sources rather than treating your political theorist of choice from 50 or 100 years ago as a prophet who has never, and will never, be wrong and who can do most of your thinking for you
finally out today: the Draft Theses of Amtel, one of two political documents i've been working on for the past bit
rosegardendsa.substack.com/p/draft-thes...
one reason i do not adopt for myself any particular political label beyond the nebulous 'libertarian socialist' is that i think far too many socialists treat their bespoke political label of choice like a theologian treats their religious denomination, and it just gets very embarrassing very quickly
genuinely: if you can't even handle a mayor having to double back on promises about trans rights, you cannot seriously expect me to believe you would have survived Lenin explicitly advocating for a retreat back into capitalism (from which the Soviet Union arguably never recovered!)
i think audience capture is the worst thing that can happen to you on social media, so i always consider it a minor vindication of my posting when i lose at least some followers for staking out a position; i just find it very uninteresting and pointless to tell people what they want to hear
every Lenin-quoter like this wants to pretend that if they led a reformist or revolutionary movement that actually won power there would never be any political contradictions to work through, which requires ignoring the entire history of the Soviet Union starting with the New Economic Program
