The thing about Trump's "go get your own oil" is that the EU and others probably will once the US stops bombing. They'll end up doing a bunch of deals with Iran to relax sanctions, allow more of their oil to be sold etc. What do they have to lose from that?
They need to work with moderate voices in the regime (the US one) to whisper in the leader's ear that it's gone great, victory was achieved and it's time to let the Europeans get on with fixing their own problems (which they surely will).
