I remember reading the original novel before watching this. Miike absolutely nailed it!
The book is actually quite short. The horrifying stuff doesn't kick in until about halfway through. But yeah, the piano wire...
It's quite creepy as it starts like a romantic novel. It all goes south when he mentions he has a son.
I borrowed it from a library as I was about to go on holiday. How I got any sleep after that is beyond me. I think the film affected me more though.
