That case is heartbreaking - as are the other recent ones. But they are not unusual. We worked out last year there was an average of 10 people injured every week in collisions in #Newcastle alone.
There needs to be a nation campaign to get people to go and vote at the next general election. Apathy is a friend to racism and the far right. Even better, make voting compulsory.

Absolutely awful tragic news. Hit by a driver as she stood next to a marked police car at an existing collision. No one is safe on UK roads. Absolutely no one. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Aye. There's also probably something to reflect on, being elected with a massive majority, on a promise of "change" and then failing to be able to articulate what actually changed. It wasn't Local Government finance. It wasn't really anything tangible people could put their finger on. Cont.
In 2025 there were 3 fatalities, 114 serious injuries and 414 slight injuries on Newcastle’s roads, an average of 10 people injured every week.

Violet Stannard was standing on the pavement just outside Durham train station when she was struck by a small van. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e... This is just one of 7 articles about different crashes, deaths or deliberate acts of violence involving a car on the local paper's home page.
There is a direct line from "not immediately condemning hooligans marking out their territory with flags as wrong 'uns" to "pogroms on the streets of the UK". One was always going to lead to another. The best time to stop this was then, the next best time is now. Not holding my breath though.
