"For a debut OGN, 'Nighthawks' is a bizarre but impactful exploration of male friendship and social politics that heralds Li as a talent to watch."

'Tigress Island' continues to be a real gem. Absurd, silly, thoughtful, brutally honest -- it all just clicks. The penultimate issue is a proper highlight/step-up.

A story about Puerto Rico's rich history and lineage of persecution.
If you've never read this (it's THE prototype of celebrity profiles), do so NOW. It's never really about Frank, but celebrity, social structures, filtering life via the arts, etc. I'll never reach that level, but I always try to do just that -- the person/book as an onion for life.
A review that I’m incredibly, incredibly proud of. Plus, it’s a hugely interesting book with layers and context and tasty meat to spare. (CC @goatsflyingpress.com):
I think about this a lot — it’s why I’m so utterly obsessed with my 4,000-word features (not just Q&As). All my most favorite and important work took real effort to engage and rewarded thoughtful reads. That’s where all of this stuff truly lives. (Cheap Plug: docs.google.com/document/d/1...)

I'm proud of all by JBTC "babies," but this week has some real comedy gems, if I do say so myself. Heart, too, folks.

one important bit that should be addressed when folks talk about the dearth of online written comics coverage is the decline of written coverage overall. this is due to a host of economic/discoverability factors, but it is not unique to comics. websites just dont get the traffic they did in 2010.
