Like I do think all of the problems that Pokemon has with its gameplay boils down to the fights are always 1v1, and maybe, if you're lucky, you can get the occasional 2v2 as like. A side gimmick
Hell even competitive goes with 2v2 because there's just way more you can do with it
Now more than ever I absolutely need to play Colosseum and XD because they got the sickos who made Dragon Quest VII to make a Pokemon game and God punished them for it

Pokemon was my first love you know, I'm never not gonna be soft on it
It is largely incapable of the thematic depth of the Ultra series or the mechanical depth of Dragon Quest
But even still, it is as big as it is for a reason, and I find myself respecting what it can do itself even more
Playing Dragon Quest VII and watching Ultraman Great at the same time and I can feel the divine spark coursing through my veins

This is one of the all time best episodes of Ultraman
I do think a lot about how the reason Pokemon is The Way It Is gameplay wise is because those Game Freak devs working out of their basement probably had no idea how to implement on the Game Boy a party of three or four guys fighting at the same time as was the standard for most RPGs on the market
I want to tell you all that I have been a very good girl and not looked at any walkthroughs at all for DQ7 except for tonight when there was the stupid fuck shit puzzle with the stupid fucking statues and the buttons where pressing one rotates all but one of them fucking bullshit ass puzzle
Getting really into both Ultraman and Dragon Quest really instills in you the full depths of how Pokemon is literally just those two things thrown in a blender and, in chasing global ubiquity, is unable to say and do quite as much, but it also makes you appreciate what it CAN say and do on its own
