(Am I justifying the absurd number of dodgy scenes in my almost-ready-to-publish novel? I’m saying I don’t have to! I enjoyed writing them, I’m open about there being far too many such scenes, and people can decide for themselves if they want to read that 🤣🤣🥰)
What people say they want in a book and what they actually buy and read are often very different things.
I reckon we should primarily write to satisfy *ourselves* - and if other people enjoy it too that’s just a nice bonus.
Trying to write for someone else’s taste is a mug’s game.
