Agreed: I was seeing this in Oracle middleware, where we has a gazillion non-concurrent programs serving each of a large community of end-users. One of my load tests was at 3,000 replayed users, each using multiple services and a share of a 64-core Oracle database server.

We (including I) benchmarked huge improvements in the ability to run ordinary programs concurrently. That's because we scheduled at runtime, not compile-time. VLIW tries to do the latter, and IMHO, is stupid.(:-))
