Sophie de Grouchy is such an interesting figure. She is a bridge between the Scottish Enlightenment, the French Revolution, and early liberalism in a way I find more satisfying than Constant or Staël.
3. A Republic of Sympathy - Kathleen McCrudden Illert. On Sophie de Grouchy's philosophy and politics in the 1785 - 1815 period. Grouchy only has one named work, but she was (and was known to be) significantly involved in the work of Condorcet and others, as well as unsigned works and her salon.
Oh it's just me being silly. As far as I know these people were all friends. Though I think I read that Staël and Grouchy might have been rivals. The last chapter of the book is about the mutual influence of Grouchy and Constant.
I stood up for trans kids before I ever considered running for office in my local community, and I'll continue to fight for the trans community in the U.S. Senate.
We can find common ground without ceding ground.
