Retinoic acid regulates foveal development in the human retina

The fovea is a region of high-acuity vision in the human retina with accelerated histogenesis, high cone density, and few rods. Wohlschlegel et al. now show that experimentally lowering RA induces these features in fetal retina, producing ectopic fovea-like development.
