The majority of incarcerated women were abused before they were pipelined into prison—and at the very least, one-third of those incarcerated for murder or manslaughter were in fact acting to protect themselves. From @justinevdl.bsky.social:

part of why abuse runs rampant in medical spaces is due to everyone telling patients to expect anxiety and discomfort while keeping you in these bright white rooms devoid of comfort or mental stimulation
