As of a few weeks ago, climate researchers thought they had at least until Sept before DOD cut off its passive microwave weather satellite data, used to track sea ice since the 1980s. Now the cut off is coming in 5 days. Hope more reporters will cover now. My recent story in @science.org:

Awful. More horrible science news "The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) learned yesterday that the Department of Defense (DoD) will stop processing & delivering the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) data no later than 30 June 2025."
