Herbert Spencer is another early conquest theorist to have a significant influence on later conquest theorists. He developed his theory independently of Dühring, and his theory is one of the most comprehensive of conquest theories.
My review of Chinese Statecraft: Political Theory and Administrative Practice in Ming China. Timothy Brook and Lianbin Dai. In sum: a great contribution to understanding jingshi 經世 (statecraft, governance, and political economy)
“The Mongol Empire: In Accordance with the Great Törö" is out in The Cambridge History of International Law! My gratitude to Profs. Lesaffer, Carrai, and Ranganathan for including my work & to Prof. Foblets (MPI) for her generous support. www.cambridge.org/core/books/c...
Thanks a lot @kennylinden.bsky.social for sharing 🙏 OA was made possible by the generous support of the Department of Law & Anthropology at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. Download: brill.com/display/titl...

One of the earliest Conquest Theorists is arguably Eugen Dühring. Unfortunately, none of his principal works seems to have been translated into English (I might be wrong). Yet, Engels’s Anti-Dühring does provide a good summary of his Theory of Force.

A new article by me on @medievalists.bsky.social on the clothing and hair of (mostly upper class) medieval Mongolian women of the empire-era has now been posted. A link to it will be in the comments below.

"The Nomadic Leviathan: A Critique of the Sinocentric Paradigm" by Lhamsuren Munkh-Erdene is now open access! "This book places pastoralism at the origin of the state and civilization, and the Eurasian steppe at the center of human history." #tengri #bluesky brill.com/display/titl...
