While I respect and take seriously the authors and question, I can't help but scoff a bit at this.
Britain's health establishment was besieged by a populist-accelerated ideological takeover in trans healthcare beginning 5 years ago.
For trans people, this paper is not addressing a hypothetical.
The irony is that we used to have common sense in this area, a benign muddle which everyone knew how to navigate. That's gone now, replaced by severity and brute categories. So the appeals to 'can't we all just bumble along' are very hard to accept.
Watching Mary-Ann Stephenson give evidence at the women's committee. Overwhelming feeling is one of acute political failure. No sector is safe from litigation, from either direction. The Supreme Court eradicated any clarity. The EHRC refuses to provide it. Politicians are too scared to get involved.
