Pioneer Square was buzzing on Friday as USA defeated Paraguay 4-1 in their World Cup opener! ⚽Next up: Team USA takes on Australia on Friday, June 19 in Seattle. For more information on all things Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 visit: www.seattlefwc26.org
The Waterfront was absolutely packed after the Belgium vs. Egypt match. ⚽️ A decade ago, this scene wouldn’t have been possible. The rebuilt waterfront has transformed the walk between the stadiums and Pike Place into one of Seattle’s great public spaces.
If you're leaving World Cup games on a shared bike or scooter, you can grab a free helmet.
In Fremont, crews recently installed new bike lane protection along Fremont Ave N. We worked to get this completed before the construction pause for the FIFA World Cup. More than 500,000 bike and scooter riders have crossed the Fremont Bridge so far this year.
BELGIUM vs EGYPT: we're still buzzing from Seattle's first FIFA Men's World Cup match yesterday. People from around the world came to celebrate, watch, and take part in this historic event. The next match is this Friday, June 19 between the United States and Australia. A few tips (con't):
Don't rush to leave: enjoy the food, drinks, and atmosphere of Pioneer Square & the CID. Make a day of it! Exiting Seattle Stadium can take a long time. Transit will be crowded, and there will be lots of traffic. Streets in Pioneer Square are open for celebrating for 2+ hours after the match ends.
Take transit, bike or scoot, or walk to Seattle Stadium if you're going to the match. Many streets around the Stadium are closed to vehicles. Park in the designated Bike & Scooter Parking areas. Only ride if you're sober. Need a helmet? Lime is giving out free helmets at the parking areas! (con't)
Come visit! Even if you're not planning on going to the match, come visit Pioneer Square, the Chinatown-International District and the Waterfront on match days for a special atmosphere as we celebrate the World Cup. More info? Visit our FIFA Travel Guide here: sdotblog.seattle.gov/2026/06/11/f...
We upgraded critical infrastructure along this stretch of Fremont Ave N as part of the Route 40 Project, completely restoring the street. This includes a new watermain, new lighting & traffic signal conduit, new sidewalks, and more. www.seattle.gov/transportati...

Lime is handing out free helmets to people right now across from Occidental Square. With the match over, lots of people are hoping on these.
