At this stage, maybe you COULD satirise UK 2026. Racist pogroms deplored by politicians on the very platform that foments that shit. More grannies and vicars and semi-retired gardeners arrested.
It's like reality is being edited live by Adam Curtis.
David Hockney, 1937-2026
RIP to a real one
Another one that got lost in the shuffle a while back when life was really bad and I couldn’t. Now I’m like 20 pages in and I want to grab you by the back of your neck and read paragraphs of this aloud to you and then look deep into your eyes and know that you know that I know that AI could never.
Not only a great painter, the late David Hockney had the most engaged and enquiring mind of his generation of artists. He never stopped experimenting and, like Picasso, brought passion and exactitude to every medium he touched. His sense of colour was spectacular but I truly loved his drawings.
RIP
1/2. David Hockney's paintings used for the opening titles of CALIFORNIA SUITE (Herbert Ross, 1978).
From the archive for Brigid Brophy, #BornOnThisDay in 1929, thoughts on HACKENFELLER'S APE. I loved this highly original novella - by turns witty, playful, beautiful & sad.

David Hockney by Cecil Beaton, 1965
There's probably never been a better time to remind you that when David Hockney first took his Mum to California she remarked 'all this lovely weather and nobody puts their washing out'.
