My incomplete verdict on 868-BACK is: definitely incredibly good, may well ultimately be better than 868-HACK (my personal favorite Brough game), but if you've never played 868-HACK it is worth starting there, preferably on a tablet, and approaching BACK as the Deluxe Sequel when you feel ready.

for the best part of this year, I've been speaking to former Maxis developers to put together this: a near-6000 word oral history of Spore 🦠 www.designroom.site/spore-an-ora...
It is intriguing that, whatever it is actually doing here, it isn’t using these characters as arbitrary signifiers—they all represent actual cards, with 2-10, J, Q, and K the only prefaces used. Not sure why there are no Aces, but maybe their high-low ambiguity makes them confusing.

Update: I use this thing constantly, every day — it’s very easy to take any google doc and send it through calibre to it as an epub, so when I’m not reading an actual book on it I’m using it to go over work. I have charged it once.
