This quote from Shoreline PD crediting street design as reducing crime on Aurora is 🤯: “Tim Meyer is a captain with Shoreline police. He said he “totally concurs” that the city’s infrastructure and investments deserve the credit for the safer atmosphere on Shoreline’s stretch of Aurora Avenue.”
65% of Washington voters support an “away for the day” ban on mobile phones in all K-12 public schools, with just 27% opposed NPI's research finds that most voters are on board with Superintendent Chris Reykdal and Governor Bob Ferguson's plans to propose legislation to require all K-12 public…

We replaced textbooks with "ed tech." Half the time my kids need to study for a test, they can't access the information they were taught in class bc it's all fragmented behind various apps. If you want your kids to retain any information, you have to re-teach at home. This is where we are at.

If only Seattle area legislators had this kind of resolve around education funding.

The NIMBY/anti-transplant movement is driven by the belief that perceived ownership of a city, either through cultural power or actual property ownership, means you should be empowered to stop it from changing. It’s a rage against the idea that you should be subject to larger systems than yourself.
My favorite thing that I also hate, taking my children camping. Half the time it's torture for everyone involved, the other half it's shit like, "Well what did *I* used to do when bored and outdoors at age 8?" The answer: "Make daisy chains out of flowers in the grass and roll down a good hill."
"The bill cuts $1.6 billion from annual Title I grants for low-income students, eliminates billions of dollars in formula and competitive grants for schools and colleges, and slashes investment in education research." via @marklieberman.bsky.social www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

There’s general agreement that Aurora Avenue North is starkly divided at North 145th street — the border between the cities of Seattle and Shoreline. The main question is why.

Why is Aurora Avenue crime concentrated in Seattle, not Shoreline?

NPI's research finds that most voters are on board with Superintendent Chris Reykdal and Governor Bob Ferguson's plans to propose legislation to require all K-12 public schools to generally prohibit mobile device use during the school day, which experience suggests can reduce distractions and enhance student engagement even if it doesn't spur a big improvement in academic outcomes.
