I finished this book this morning, and I’ve been trying to stay away from heavy fiction, but this had me at “prairie witch”. There is tough stuff in here, but it was done in a way that I was able to handle, and oof, it made me feel a lot of feelings I’m still turning over. In a good way!
I recently got an upholstery cleaning machine and I have finished deep cleaning the couch and I don’t know if I ever felt better. It has changed my life. I’m going to clean so much stuff with this and feel an illusory sense of control in a world gone mad.
8 year old is doing more baseball this summer. Just got a call that practice starts tomorrow at a park that is about as far away from our house as you can get and still be in Tacoma. Here we go for another round of youth sports!!
I barely buy new books now because it’s not worth the money. And honestly, if libraries didn’t exist, I just wouldn’t read as much.
Anyway, it seems like publishers are more interested in selling fewer expensive books than more cheap books and this is a consequence of that.
I used to buy books I had read at the library that I enjoyed because being surrounded by books I loved reading makes me happy. I don’t do that anymore; it’s too expensive! I would live to go buy every book I read, but, like most people, I’m not a billionaire. Can’t do it!

It is absolutely insane to blame libraries! Most of the new books I read these days come from libraries and the reason is 100% price. Paperbacks are at least $20 now! And a lot of books don’t get paperback runs, so your only other choice is to spend $35 on a hardback.
Back in the pre-pandemic days I’d grab a book or two (or more…) every time I was at Target. But you could get them for $12 then. And there was a good selection! Thats not true anymore! I used to grab books at Costco all the time. They don’t sell them now. Mass market paperbacks are dead.
