Absolutely this. When we write it kind of goes into the void. You put five years into something and then don’t hear about it for years at a time.
I even love the student podcast about my book that complained “too many fish.”
It seems a good day to remind people that in the UK 3 times as many people work in Indian restaurants or for McDonalds as in the whole coal and steel industry. 5 times as many are academic staff at universities. If Labour does not understand its electorate, there is no way to appeal to it.
Of course, for a somewhat longer explanation of this position, you can check out my first monograph: www.routledge.com/Ethnic-Ident...

I feel useless because I could do the job but can't get the job. He feels useless because he has the job but can't do it. We are not the same.
Something I found that really helps writers especially is to tell them you read their work. There is a friend of mine who thought their work went completely unread for ages, they had no idea, I would read every update of theirs no matter how small.
I told them their work was important to me.
