Normally you wouldn’t increase the likelihood of US casualties by announcing something like this ahead of time, unless you are bluffing to use it as a negotiating ploy, you are stupid, you don’t really care about the troops, or all three.
They came here fleeing persecution; rather than give them refuge, Marco Rubio’s state department will send them to die in countries they’ve never been to. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/w...

We are closing @goldperc.bsky.social after 12 years. Here I reflect on the times and what we made of them www.goldperc.uk/project_post...
I know being PM entails more responsibility than this, but as a mic drop before he steps down, Starmer could say screw you to Elon Musk and then make that another person's problem. Trivial though that sounds, that would probably be the legacy-defining thing, given the state of the world just now
Another item began with a declaration (to paraphrase) that "we keep being told that violent crime is falling, but it doesn't feel like that". As if how people "feel" is just an independent variable to which the news has to respond, rather than something that inaccurate reporting helps to shape.

This is a devastating read. The fact that there's a narrative circulating, primarily by people with no connection to the reality of young lives, that we're living through a pandemic of laziness makes it unbearable. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

This week we celebrated the launch of Reading Wars by Don Herzog! 📚🎉 The event featured Don Herzog, Larry Kramer and Nicola Lacey, chaired by Devika Hovell. The panel explored the heated, even murderous, political struggles over who gets to read and what they get to read.

There is a remarkable scale of the celebration, glorification and excited encouragement of violence on the X platform. It is probable that most of it is not incitement in law [though there will be examples that are] but the nature + pace of dissemination makes it a major national security risk
