Drivers are a menace says study reported on by those far left, tree hugging lunatics at... Forbes.
This tragic death holds a message to all policy makers who are willing to hear it: No more half measures. Our streets must be made safe for everyone. Hard protected bike lanes on every single street, and traffic laws that put bicyclists and pedestrians first!
More than a year ago Ride Illinois started to understand & strategize on differentiating between legal classes of ebikes and epowered devices that are definitely not ebikes. That hard work put in by Ride Illinois and our legislative allies has paid off! Gov. Pritzer is expected to sign the bill.
Paris can do this but Chicago can't?
“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”
So let's address it. Removing auto parking and even closing streets for cars and making them more more bicycle and pedestrian friendly will likely increase accessibility to small businesses. This isn't new: www.peopleforbikes.org/news/benefit....

This video camera study showed that less than 5% of people on bikes broke traffic laws while riding bikes, yet 66% of people did so while driving. And perhaps even more importantly, if you REALLY want even MORE bike-riders to obey laws, build more protected bike infrastructure. Via @carltonreid.com

We were out last night and took some photos at the jam and vigil ride for Riley O'Neil (hosted by @bikegridnow.org), a CDOT employee who spent his life working to make biking safer in Chicago, and was killed in a crash in Bridgeport on Friday June, 5th. Rest in Peace, Riley.
