Thanks to Nemo and everyone for the education. I knew nowt about this until today.
Interesting – I've not noticed this before. You could be right. John was no football fan, and I don't think he ever publicly mentioned England's World Cup victory, but maybe someone gave him the charm and he felt like hanging it there.
I’m happy and honoured to be the first guest in this new show (welcome back, Chris) and to pay due respect to Bill Harry for creating Mersey Beat, now 65 years ago.
Much of my professional life deals with 'xx years since such-and-such event' but for my first book to have been out now 40 years is simply scary.
That's impressive research. I'm sorry I've nothing to add to it.
As usual you have elegantly articulated exactly what I was thinking, Jillian! Finally got to listen to this episode today and it was, as you say, exquisite. It’s so great to have @chrisshaweditor.bsky.social back again, and @marklewisohn.bsky.social has no equal. Marvellous stuff. #EggPodExpress
THIS is why we need @marklewisohn.bsky.social and his peerless work SO badly.

A fantastic first episode! From gag classfied ads to "this then is" in-jokes to Birthday theories, it has the kind of exquisite detail only @marklewisohn.bsky.social & @chrisshaweditor.bsky.social can provide.
The accompanying Mersey Beat Popularity Poll playlist is excellent too!
