Some young Tim Hiddleston action here, from the brilliant 2006 Victoria Cross Heroes series.
Hard to recreate the intensity of the fighting around Kohima, and they miss out the part where John Randle covers the embrasure with his own body to contain the grenade blast

Take that, Fritz!
Monty leading the way.
Manchester Evening News 7th June 1944.
Ladies and gentlemen: Charles Hazlitt Upham VC and Bar.
This Is Your Life, 1985. Holy smokes.
Listen to how he got his VC here linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar
Lt Col Phil Roden on Bruce’s charge:
“You could see his Bren gun held out and his big bottom swaying as he went with the momentum he was getting up, followed by Alan Avery. They were cheerful. They were going out on a picnic almost.”

On @newsofthewar.bsky.social, we've revelled in stories that aren't well known, 1939-45. We were keen to do a VC-special. But when @andyaitch.bsky.social realised he'd got unseen film of Ian Liddell VC - that was something else.
Here it is. The found footage of Ian Liddell VC.
As far as I know this footage has NEVER been seen publicly before.
Filmed on the 7/4/45, 4 days after the action on the bridge, and 2 weeks before he was killed.
He was called the officer that never lost his temper, I think you can see that here.
Join us, for our first episode in our Generalissimos series.
To kick us off we have Marshal Pietro Badoglio - a nasty little shitbag if ever I saw one.

For our Australian friends, we also talked about Bruce (of course he’s called Bruce) Kingsbury VC…. The epitome of charging the enemy foreign the Bren from the hip at Isurava, PNG.
Charles Hazlitt Upham VC & Bar, who served in Greece, Crete and the Western Desert. Incredible bravery,
Every recipient of the Victoria Cross has their likeness captured in portrait - a true likeness.
