Rewarding myself after a long bike ride that included a (very minor) tumble in the forest. (mostly it's my ego that's bruised.) Südseite has quickly become my go-to place for coffee in HD.
watching Inland Empire (the David Lynch movie) and there's this really familiar face that I can't place. Went through his WIkipedia page and couldn't find anything I would recognize him from. Until the very last entry.... Baron Von Glower in Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within.
gonna start saying "Python did some great number crunching" or "Excel organized this data beautifully" since giving full credit to the tool you use seems to be the thing to do these days
so today I got a message on whatsapp (i.e. my personal number) with my full name, name and dates of a hotel reservation I made through booking dot com. doing scammy stuff: asking me to click on a link to "confirm payment method" (domain created today), reservation will be cancelled in 24h, etc.
so I did my good samaritan thing and reported it to the hotel and to booking dot com. the hotel (which I picked specifically for not being a soulless chain) doesn't know what to do, booking dot com (expectedly) pins the whole blame on the hotel. bad look for everyone in the story.
so now I gotta cancel that reservation (how could I trust the hotel with my credit card info?) and I think this is where I stop using booking dot com altogether. At least if I book directly with the hotel I know who to blame and who to go after in a situation like this.

Super proud of my colleagues Lisanna, Isabela and Nina on leading this grant proposal that got funded (it's a big one!), and very proud to be a small part of making it happen! Looking forward to helping consolidate data stewardship as a career over the next 4 years. www.embl.org/news/connect...
Outlook composed that amazing, though a but rude, email.
