Every now and then, years of committing to an idea pays off big time. Yes, this is a single shot.

Well, I guess 'Happy Earth Day!' it is.
Featured: four images taken close to home, right here in the Netherlands, proving one doesn't always need to travel far to see nature at its most spectacular.

National Windmill Day(s) 2026 in the Netherlands. The shapes of classic windmills often stand out strongly in the landscape, making them perfect to include in all kinds of shots featuring the beauty of lots of different natural phenomena.

Last night's short, but naked-eye visible Aurora show. The fog blanket made for an atmosphere I hadn't captured in an Aurora shot for well over a year, so it made for a very welcome addition.

Last night's Aurora was mostly invisible from the Netherlands, mainly due to cloud cover. However, September 2nd got me a series of shots I'm unlikely to ever capture again, featuring the Northern Lights, a thunderstorm and airglow.

Far from being the most spectacular Aurora of Solar Cycle 25, September 2nd's event had its moments. However, the true showstopper was a tiny thunderstorm. Bonus: even a bit of airglow made an appearance.

The G5 solar super storm of May 10-11, two years ago. An absolute eye-opener to what a top-tier Aurora event can look like, and the most mind-blowing photography session I've ever experienced. One brilliant substorm after another from dusk till dawn.

Sometimes luck simply walks into the frame. Still, it requires knowing where and when to go to get the most photogenic compositions and conditions.

I guess it's not a bad series of captures, taken it was only the first storm chase of the season.
