Smooth muscle cells transiently acquire a CD34+ progenitor state upon injury to drive pathological vascular remodeling
9d
Lu et al. identify a smooth muscle-derived CD34⁺ transient progenitor cell (STPC) population that emerges following vascular injury. These cells exhibit high proliferative capacity and significantly contribute to neointimal hyperplasia, establishing STPCs as a potential therapeutic target for vascular diseases.
