Spotted a clump of beautiful Flowering Rush along the Worcestershire Avon. Not common locally, a special find with three more flowering stems on the way. (I only had the phone camera and couldn't get closer, for obvious reasons! 😃) @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Lizard Orchid (Himantoglossum hircinum) at Berrow, Somerset. This species is on the edge of its range in Britain, but appears to be expanding its range, potentially in response to climate change.

Southern Marsh Orchids abundant across riverside meadows in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. The western meadow where Early Marsh Orchids also grow is always good for Southern Marsh, eastern meadow is far better this year than I've ever seen it. So many! @ukorchids.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Possible Dactylorhiza x wintoni ?? Riverside meadow in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, a well-known site where both Early and Southern Marsh Orchids are plentiful and the hybrid has been recorded over a long period. @ukorchids.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Kitchen window wildlife viewing on a wet morning for #30DaysWild 11. Jackdaw from a nearby nest in a house chimneypot. Traditionally Jackdaws are said to nest in chimneys and our local birds certainly keep up that tradition, a good population.

A length of laneside bank held a display of starry yellow Perforate St. John's-wort and the pink-purple spires of Hedge Woundwort, the yellow pea-like flowers of Meadow Vetchling scrambling among them. They grow in our wildlife garden too, but this chance combination looks better!

Waited for heavy showers to clear before I headed out today, and I think the local insects had the same idea. Every bramble bush along the lanes was a busy feeding ground and this one in a sunny spot was humming with Bumblebees and hoverflies.
Two old-style roses from the garden for #RoseWednesday. Paul's Scarlet (1915), a *very* vigorous climber with hybrid-tea-sized blooms and a strong repeat flowerer. Ferdinand Pichard (1910), a beautiful, scented old rose which has a main flush of flowers then some repeat flowering.

Cool and windy but sunny and even dry for an early walk! Local wildflowers are enjoying the rain and growing fast. Agrimony, Meadow Crane's-bill and Bird's-foot Trefoil all out in quantity - plus that beautiful Common Spotted Orchid I first noticed last week. @bsbibotany.bsky.social
