Yes, and I hate everything about that spin of AI as thought partners. Lately I learned that engaging in such conversation is a thing where I ask dumb-looking questions like "is this really the problem to solve here? And is that Ai really the best solution to that?" Most of the time, it is not

"Thought partner" was previously used when working with a classmate, and now it's being applied to AI. Bleak. We're going to end up with schools full of lonely kids that don't know how to work with other humans.

I have seen language used in the "AI in Ed" spaces from at least 2023. It's a common term that we use in partner work, and I think it just got used for the chatbots, too, soon after ChatGPT came out.
