my favorite saying to remember this is:
"you could be the juiciest peach and some people just don't like peaches."
(One of the several dozen unfair things about academic interviews, or probably any interview for people who began work after 2008, is the idea you should have a intentional linear story of jobs you chose, rather than making the best from whatever diverse gigs you got.)

Somtimes I think about the post where the guy was like: I wanted to help my wife and fold the towels. She tried to show me how to fold towels and I told her there wasn't a right way to fold towels. She walked away and I realized my folded towels didn't fit in the closet.
I have also made progress on the Pile of Impossibilities (a pile of papers, folders, files, etc that need a home but also need to be available and also take time to sort through).
