I’m not sure people realize how huge this problem is. During Trump 1.0, ~5,000 kids were separated from parents at the border. During Trump 2.0, the Brookings Institution estimates *145,000* US citizen kids have been separated, mostly in the country's interior www.brookings.edu/articles/how... 5/x
Imagine being a kid and learning both your parents were arrested by ICE. You’ll have to pay rent and survive on your own. I shadowed four siblings—US citizens near Mar-a-Lago—as they try to do that. I'll be thinking about their story for a long time 1/x www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

ICE took Mom and Dad. Now the Perez kids are home alone.
Making matters worse: Before Trump 2.0, deported parents could decide whether they wanted their kids to join them abroad, and ICE was supposed to facilitate that choice. Now, ICE will do so only if “operationally feasible.” Parents are being separated from their infants and struggling to reunite 7/x

Around the country, ICE is arresting people and not asking if they have kids at home. While reporting, I heard about a dad who begged in vain for officers to let him call his babysitter; about parents stepping off deportation flights in tears because they didn’t know whether their kids were safe 4/x
