Loved this piece by @michejaw.bsky.social. All culture critics how risky it can be to cover stuff you love—there's no surer way to suck all the fun out of it—but with Game of Thrones, outlets' endless desire for ~content never ceased. I'm so glad she was able to find her way back to enjoying it!
"What started as a hobby and became a job soon turned into a life raft I quietly resented." For House of the Dragons' return, @michejaw.bsky.social takes us on a bittersweet nostalgia trip through a truly wild decade for geek media in today's @fansplaining.bsky.social longread.

I...very rarely ever write personal essays (or about myself for more than a couple of self-deprecating paragraphs at a time); it's not my style at all. *Very* few editors I'd ever do that for. But @bookshop.bsky.social—facilitating a reunion 10 years in the making—is one of them
I went to Jersey for a week and came back to, no joke, a dozen political flyers.
One for Schlossberg. One for Conway. Three pro-Bores; one anti-Bores from that AI PAC. Six for Lasher (two of which include notes from Nadler and Bloomberg).
I need this primary to be over yesterday
If you know me from the GOT days and wonder why I'm not covering HOTD season 3, this is a good chunk of why.
(The other, less sexy reason, is that finding a job is a full-time job—over 900 apps with no end in sight—and I don't have the capacity to do both in a hostile freelance environment.)
If you enjoyed that and have any capacity to do so (whether it's in journalism or something tangential), for the love of god, PLEASE HIRE ME. Or at least subscribe to my newsletter lol
