Spoiler: I'm not sure I succeeded, but metaphors are technologies for thinking. And sure enough, living up to its reputation, the new metaphor still brings something new to the table.

The 2023 metaphor for an LLM was a Shoggoth with a smiley face: a Lovecraftian monster in a thin human mask. In my new blogpost, I try to figure out how to update it for 2026.
