The anime is an excelent adaptation all things considered, you're fine! the VN is absolutely the one that leans more towards the dating sim fantasy vibes anyway.
I would argue S;G0 (the anime sequel) even fixes some issues I had with the VN counter part.
It has given me the same vibes of works like Steins;Gate. The Visual Novel was written with lowkey the same type of model in mind, it's like a dating sim in disguise, but the story turned out so good, the MC so likable, it's impossible for me to just not enjoy it and have it as my favourite VN haha
