Movies, modernism, art, politics, poetry. The usual social media ephemera of architecture, pets, food, flowers, clouds. Bay Area 📍 | Los Angeles ♥️

Let's go, @robbonta.bsky.social!! California must fight back on this merger that will only further deprive Americans of fair market choices about media consumption. #paramount #warnerbros

So sad to hear about the passing of David Hockney. Had the privilege of seeing some of his awe-inspiring art, and hearing his incredible voice describing his ways of working at the fantastic exhibition Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away) at the Lightroom Kings Cross a few years ago. RIP ❤️
The merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. marks a dangerous turn in the American media landscape. These media giants have already shown a willingness to bend to an administration seeking complete narrative control, and this merger will only make that worse. 🧵

The Knicks earned every inch of this championship. Damn! Such grit!
I haven’t felt so depleted — by the end of term, the heat, the prospect of no break at all for another 12 weeks — in quite some time. I had to request an extension. 🫠
The replies to this are a sumptuous feast for the mind. And if you ever wondered what it is scholars of literature and culture do, exactly, take a look.

Several years ago, I gave away as a gift to a friend my copy of _A Bigger Picture_, the exhibition catalogue from the spectacular and comprehensive retrospective of David Hockney’s work that the DeYoung put up back in 2013. Longing to leaf through it today, I plonked down for a replacement copy. 📫

Still 78F inside (it was over 80 earlier), but finally getting some cool, nighttime air from outdoors. Omg, this may be the summer I break down and get a portable AC unit. 😭

These were remarkable. Loved all his experiments with light, color, and technology (from charcoal and watercolors to video and iPad) -- and seeing the world through rendered through eyes. RIP, Hockney.

The fact that they had to proceed with the removal under cover of their massive Schamvorhang is just so telling about this administration.
