I spent 10 years at UCSF, and Howard Fields was there the entire time. He counseled me many times, and I truly appreciate that nearly every time we spoke, although he was 20+ years my senior and 20+ times my h-index, he spoke to me as a peer, and with the best of intentions. I will miss him.

I’m very sad to share that Howard Fields has died. He made seminal discoveries in pain modulation, placebo, and addiction. He was also a wonderful mentor and friend who taught me how to think about the brain and the joy of scientific discovery. www.iasp-pain.org/publications...
