Ask yourself the question ‘what function does it serve to debate whether someone is English?’ Nationality is a social convention. Nations don’t exist. People fabricated the identity relatively recently then enforced that social reality on us. The function is to exclude certain types of people.

But Sunak certainly does not say that.
