A friend recently was reflecting that they felt art direction in games has gotten generally worse. I think it's a good use of our time & energy to celebrate the fact that while there are a lot of whiffs in the world today, the recent era has also seen some of the greatest of all time
1/3 of the game industry has lost their job in the last two years. Ubisoft closed two more studios today. Everyone is out of work. To that end I'm starting a new bundle to benefit a layoffs hardship fund. Game devs: please consider submitting your PAID games to the bundle, which will launch in July.

The surest sign to me that it's all about control is that they will give actual artists SO many notes and revisions... but whatever genAI slops out? Who cares about any of that, put it out there without any care for the many mistakes.
AI? No notes!
Artists? Oh so many notes and unpaid overtime.
