From a farm in the north of England to the frontiers of bioinformatics, our Group Leader Sandra Orchard reflects on a career building the data foundations of modern biology: “AI is showing how vital data curation really is.” www.ebi.ac.uk/about/news/p... 🖥️🧬
🚀January #GeneOntology release is here! Now covering 1.7M bioentities with 9.4M annotations across 5,500+ taxa✨ 🔗 Get the data: 📊 current.geneontology.org 📁 doi.org/10.5281/zeno... Details: community.alliancegenome.org/t/8613 via @alliancegenome.bsky.social #Bioinformatics #OpenScience
We identified many differentially expressed genes and found differences in gene ontology processes between groups. Genes involved in cell cycle regulation were enriched in miniature taxa, while genes associated with growth factors and tissue development were enriched in large-bodied gobies.
❄️ Gene Ontology Winter Break ❄️ Our resources will remain fully accessible through the holiday season: release.geneontology.org. Support requests will be addressed after we return on January 5th. Wishing our wonderful community a restful season and a well-annotated 2026! 🧬✨
Lots of #GeneOntology in this work as well! GO analysis showed enrichment of upregulated genes in pheromone signaling, cell wall biogenesis, cell shape regulation; downregulated genes associated with cell cycle progression, chromatin remodeling, histone gene expression, nucleosome organization
Only a week until the next Alliance webinar, this month it will be on MicroPublications. Make sure you're registered now!
If you have more time and are looking for more of a foundational introduction to genAI (with lots of bio examples, and no maths) we are running a training series for members of the @geneontology.bsky.social consortium.
👏 Congratulations 🎉 to PhD student Daiqing Chen for her #PosterAward at @amsocmatbio.bsky.social for "The MatriGO Project: Systematic Curation and Refinement of ECM-related Terms in #GeneOntology" #UIC #MatrixBiology #Science
🐰 The Easter bunny delivered early! The March 2026 Gene Ontology release is here with 38,560 GO terms, 8.8M annotations across 5,557 species. Your functional genomics just got a spring upgrade! 🔗 current.geneontology.org 📋 community.alliancegenome.org/t/8648 #GeneOntology #Bioinformatics #Genomics
As a final nod to 2025, #GeneOntology announces our latest paper in @narjournal.bsky.social! Updates include expanded #Ontology & annotations in #Metabolism, multi-org interactions, #chromatin remodeling, & more. Also ft. #Functionome v2 and 1500+ GO-CAM pathway models! 🧬🧪 doi.org/10.1093/nar/...
