NJ, already maligned by people who only know the state from EWR/Sopranos/Jersey Shore, is going to be the laughing stock of the world bc it/FIFA decided to not allow parking at Met Life, forcing people to take NJ Transit, which can't even operate in ideal conditions

"An average of almost 69 million Americans a month, including retirees, disabled people and children, receive a Social Security benefit, totaling about $1.6 trillion in annual benefits, according to the SSA"
That's $4,383,561,643.83 per day. We are spending 1/4 that per day in Iran.
"Social Security is expected to deplete the fund that helps pay out retirement benefits by late 2032, the program’s trustees said Tuesday."
So can I stop paying into it since it's clear I'm never a) gonna retire; b) get any money if I do.

Absolute banger of an investigation by @mayakaufman.bsky.social and her co-reporters here!
Sometimes you get on a NJ Transit train after a long day of work and just want to zone out while staring out the window. And sometimes you literally cannot.
ESPN is currently planning on laying off folks this summer; which comes after layoffs this spring. Zooming out to parent company Disney: the House of Mouse laid of 1,000.
