Hmm, that's tough. "The Other Minneapolis" is quite old and might be hard to get your hands on (the text is in effect typewritten). The King of Skid Row is about one person but skillfully sketches out the area and there's a companion documentary. "Down & Out" is essay-length text (maybe that's good)
