Hey, Feiffer's BFF Eisner is a great example of both ends of the spectrum: great when working on schlock, terrible when trying to be Capital-A artist.

I wonder if Alex Toth ever saw Grist's work. And if he did - what he thought of it? Because in many ways Grist seems to naturally grasp what it took Toth decades to learn.
I enjoy this sort of creative snapping, though I disagree with Feiffer: Wood was definitely an auteur. Not that it made his work great (I've read enough Witzend), but it was definitely an expression of the 'self.'
