Exactly, this not being a new place or one thats somehow extra cleaned or more often cleaned than it would be in medieval times, makes it only more ironic.
The buildings are also still being used, people "live" there regularly.
In 1973 there was an oil crisis and in the Netherlands we had car-free Sundays.
I was only 1 year old, but never forgave my parents for not dragging me to the nearest motorway to take a cool photo of me playing on the tarmac.
