Not to mention non-fossil fuel energy generation, green tech, transport infrastructure, school renewal, SEN provision, apprenticeships, sure start, early yrs help, libraries, youth clubs etc etc.

Yup. I've lived through multiple ERVS schemes in my long (if undistinguished) academic career. Glen's article gives a good summary of how it feels. I'm relieved that I'm now at an age to be past caring on a personal level. But seeing the sector, friends & colleagues on the block is grim/depressing.
Well, yes - all true. But a bit disappointed the iconic dachshunds didn't get a mention.

My parents went to art school in the early 50s, from working class backgrounds in the East Midlands . Hockney was a hero to them, and a symbol of post-war British creativity and possibility, in a way which is hard to imagine now. He could paint too. Wonderful obit 👇
