This is my favorite classification of hyper
like first of all programmers are staring at ubuntu mono and fira code and stuff all damn day... and people have a lot of opinions on font choices in code editors/terminals but there's almost no demand for variable width text there... i know im speaking as a linux user but hmo
it's kind of like using an alternative writing system. so ideally it will shape & be shaped by *what* you write and how you choose to present it onscreen. but you should have been thinking about that the whole time bc that applies to all writing systems
they're saying "wow it's so hyperspecific" "this barely even counts as sex" and also "only the world's most miserable pearl clutcher would call this toxic yuri"
i don't want to promise anything but i kinda wanna make a porn vn this month
fixed width not as prevalent in video games as you would think but there's undertale/deltarune, plus almost every rpg maker game... i'm also thinking about stuff like gamefaqs guides. and homestuck but we don't gotta talk about homestuck
might be feeling brave enough to challenge the prevailing wisdom that fixed width fonts aren't suited to reading
im not sure yet what my thesis is. fixed width is definitely a newer weirder way of rendering latin letters and people get uncomfy with it, but i think it's a cultural/learnable thing and not a matter of objective quality. reading text boxes is also a very different context from reading paragraphs
it's not really a mystery anymore but i liked when people online didn't know and would keep thinking i was trans "the other way" from the way i actually am

sometimes people do something fucked up like write an entire best-selling RPG trilogy entirely in kana. it's fun to do things with text that make people turn their brains on
