I think part of the reason i got kinda fixated on the Jax Discourse was that the flashback sequence gave me very little reason to root for her. Would’ve been more cathartic if they *did* save her, imo. I’d call that saccharine, but I’d say that about the goofy-ass slideshow at the end.
really, i think doing a bury-your-gays story in this political climate is… dour. and if they were doing that, i wish they’d actually commit to the bit. make her canonically trans. don’t give me her deadname?? explore her *obvious* derealization issues.
from the reviews of TS5 i’m reading, i have to respect that it’s (supposedly?) a lot more nuanced in its phone-bad messaging compared to Incredibles 2 or WALL-E. its hot take is “phone can be good or bad. use wisely.”
