A typical water service in Germany only requires a check valve, which has negligible pressure loss. That means a building in the US will require a booster pump system for a building 3 stories shorter than in Germany due to this requirement alone.

My five-story building has really low water pressure at the top, and our management company told us that all their other buildings our height have pumps. @pipedreaming.bsky.social pointed out that it’s because of the required backflow prevention device for new buildings, otherwise it’d be acceptable
